An opportunity for an Overnight Rota Nanny to work for a family who lives  in the Forest Hill area of Toronto. The Nanny will work collaboratively with a team of two other nannies to support a family with four school-aged children, with a focus on the two younger children who are supported by a staff of roughly ten employees.

The role’s schedule rotates 5-days on (live-in) and 5-days off (live-out) inclusive of weekends and holidays. The rota schedule is shared with two other nannies. Comfortable live-in accommodation is provided.

The family is looking for an active person who will work well with other household staff, and most importantly, an individual seeking a long-term relationship.The position suits someone who has a background planning, executing, and participating in sports activities either as a Camp Counsellor or YM or YWCA Counsellor.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The position is Toronto-based; however, summer months are spent in Muskoka for varying lengths of time

  • Plan both active and educational activities (indoors and outdoors)

  • Create fun and safe environment for the home and children

  • Encourage and promote the children in sporting activities that will include swimming, biking, skate, skiing, tennis, and water sports

  • Provide nurturing care and companionship, particularly when the parents are travelling

  • Child supervision and transportation (vehicle provided for work purposes)

  • Able to provide educational support

  • While there is a Chef, there will be some meal preparation required, mostly breakfasts.

  • Maintaining and organizing children’s wardrobes as well as doing children’s laundry

  • Ensure that children’s play areas are kept clean and tidy

  • Keep the children safe, and calmly manager emergencies within the family guidelines

  • Always protect the Family’s confidentiality

  • This position is dynamic, evolving, and subject to change

  • When time permits, help other staff in their duties

  • Support parents and parenting choices while interfacing with the parents

  • Report to the Estate Manager

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous childcare experience (at least 5 years) in a similar position is required

  • Ideal candidates will have formal educational development training

  • A passion for working with children of all ages

  • Experience with play-based learning and creating educational activities (e.g., planned engaging activities at home, developmentally appropriate games, stimulating projects and crafts, scheduled outings, etc.)

  • An ability to work successfully with various personalities, build strong, trusting relationships, and share information in support of the Family, children, and team

  • A warm, positive, personable, calm, and affectionate personality that is open to spontaneity

  • An ability to intuitively assess Family dynamics have situational awareness, be accessible but not intrusive, and have tact and diplomacy

  • The Nanny should be a critical thinker

  • An ability to offer flexibility when needed

  • Demonstrate unwavering integrity and discretion in handling confidential information

  • Possess exceptional organizational & problem-solving skills, and dedication to responsibilities

  • Able to keep up with a young and active children

  • Be energetic, and a self-starter

  • A willingness to listen and learn from both the parents and work colleagues

  • Strong English language communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Be comfortable communicating with the Family in real-time (e.g. by text or phone) and ideally be computer savvy with a proficiency with Apple products

  • Hold a valid passport and have status to legally work in Canada and travel abroad.

  • Pet, specifically dog-friendly

  • A valid Canadian Driver’s License and a clean driving record, with a comfort level driving children

  • Standard vaccinations are required

  • CPR & First Aid certified preferred
