Recruiters in Ontario Must Now be Licensed

Portico Inc. is pleased to announce that it is fully licensed and compliant with the new Ontario Regulation 99/23 Licensing for Temporary Help Agencies and Recruiters under the Employment Standards Act, 2000. Employers seeking to engage Portico's services can do so with the knowledge and confidence they are working with a licensed and legally compliant firm.

So why should a prospective employer care?

Well, Employers in Ontario who engage the services of an unlicensed recruitment firm may face stiff financial penalties for failing to ask the question "are you licensed?"

Recruiters also face stiff penalties for operating without a license and the government reserves the right to force an unlicensed firm's closure. The licensing requirement includes firms outside of Ontario who are engaged to recruit within the province. They too must be asked: "are you licensed?"

To verify if a recruiter (or temporary help agency) is licensed, employers can go to the Ontario government's website. Click on the link to visit the verification page.

Be safe. Ask the question and check the government's website to stay on the right side of the legislation. A licensed firm is also a good indicator that it does its due diligence and takes its business seriously... something I imagine people want in a recruiting company.
